Mizuno, 1681, Kakan Kōmoku: White spotted red, large size. Dou­ble. Originated in Japan. Note: There appear to be at least three different cultivars with differ­ent characters which can translate as “Cuckoo”. They each have different readings. The one used for this cultivar has the different reading of ‘Kakkō’. (Believed extinct.)
