Berlèse, 1837, Monographie, ed.1, p.88: Leaves 10 cm long x 8 m wide, apex acuminate, recurved, base rounded, broad oval-elliptic, shining green; flower 8 cm across, spherical, very double; petals of the centre and circumference curled, sinuous, irregular, folded; those of the periphery, entire, of a pure white, occasionally striped red, with a few sta­mens. Originated in Europe.
