Marnoch, 1839, Florist’s Magazine; Hovey, ed., 1839, Magazine of Horticulture, 5:338: This variety, known as a seedling of Mr Buist’s, is noticed in The Floral Magazine, where it is stated that it is in the possession of Low & Co, Clapton Nursery, England. It is a beautiful rose colour, the centre of each petal pencilled with white; the flower has a depth of petals, which are rounded and well set, and is equal to the double white (Alba Plena). Buist, 1845, The American Flower Garden Directory, p.221: Bloomed first in 1836. It is our first seedling of merit. Named in compliment of our late and esteemed patron, H. Pratt of Lemon Hill. Synonyms: ‘Prattii’(Nova) ‘Prattii de New York’, ‘Prattii Vera d’Amerique’, ‘Prattii’(Buist’s). Orthographic errors: ‘Pratii’, ‘Pratti’, ‘Pratii Nova’, ‘Prati’.
