Craig, 1971, American Camellia Yearbook, p.61: New and not yet in general circulation. This large, white sport of Ōaso (Ō-aso) possesses all of the superb qualities of its parent but is snow white in colour. Originated in Japan. For colour photos and descriptions see: Encyclopedia of Camellias in Colour, vol.I, 1972, p.368 and ibid, vol.II, 1978, pl.339; Seibundō Shinkōsha, 1978, Senchinshū, pp.163, 257: A mutation of Shintsukasa-nishiki (Which also sports ‘Ōaso’), originated by Inoue Issoku in 1965. Name approved by the Higo Camellia Society of Japan in 1970. Late flowering. The flower is 12 cm across, single with 6-7 petals, snow white, petals thick and margins wavy. Stamens radiate centrally, white, 170-200; pistil white, extending just beyond the stamens. Leaves are oval and lustrous, dark green. Plant form and growth habit are the same as Shintsukasa-nishiki. Originated in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. Synonym: ‘Shiro-shintsukasa’.
