Griffin ed., 1958, Camellian, vol.IX, No.4, p.14: In the September issue were listed two new camellias from Hugh Shackelford, Albany, Georgia. One was ‘Romance’ and that name has been changed and registered as Isle of Capri while the other, ‘Sir Galahad’ has been renamed Roman Soldier due to names already in use. Very large, thick peony camellia, bright red in colour. It has a beautiful formation and opens to 13-15 cm across. Blooms mid-season. SCCS., Camellia Nomenclature lists the ACS., 1961 Reg. No.590, War Eagle as a synonym. Sport: Roman Soldier Variegated.
