Kasuya, Kamegorō, 1859, Tsubaki Irohanayose Irotsuki: Splashed pink on white ground, semi-double in 3 tiers, with divided stamen cluster. Itō, Ko’emon, 1879, Chinkashū: Cherry pink, splashed pink, large single. Leaves deeply serrate, like a cherry leaf. Tateyama Nursery Catalogue, Mar.1957: Dark red, white stripes, single, large. Originated in Japan. Corrupted name: ‘Sak-araha’. Chinese reading: ‘Yinghua’. Thought to be a synonym for Shōkei-sakaraba and the modem Sakuraba-tsubaki.
