Nagoya Camellia Society Bulletin, 1992. No.25, p.15, colour plate No.56: Originated by Kōji Funakoshi, Nagoya, Japan. A seedling from C.japonicas Seiōbo x ‘Gozen-no-kaori’ (Hinoyama-tarō). A small size, 6-7 cm across, single with 6-7 petals, pale pink fading to white at centre. Flower and leaf shape resemble ‘Gozen-no-kaori’, with similar but more intense fragrance. Flowers mid-season. “Shōkyō” is the younger of the beautiful sisters in the Chinese historical novel Sangokushi.
