Seibundō Shinkōsha, 1976, Garden Life, Apr., p.48; Encyclopedia of Camellia in Colour, vol.II, 1978, pl.334, p.139, description, p.247: Small size, white, campanu­late single with 5-6 large, frilled, overlapping petals; stamens in a cylindrical cluster, anthers yellow. Leaves mid-green, broad-lanceolate, apex short-acuminate, margins shallowly serru­late, raised venation. Blooms early season. Originated in Matsu’e, Shimane Prefecture, Japan. See: Katei Gahō, ed., 1984, Chabana Koyomi, vol.I, Tsubaki, p.144; Seibundō Shinkōsha, 1980, Senchinshū, pp.67, 219. Yokoyama & Kirino, 1989, Nihon no Chinka, p.19. It is said that this culti­var had been a favourite camellia of Matsudaira, Fumaiko, and often used for the first tea cere­mony of the year.
