Leaves coriaceous, ovate orelliptic, 2-3 cm long, 1-1.6 cm wide, apices acute or obtuse, bases broadly cuneate; dark green above, slightly shiny in the dry state, glabrous or base of midvein slightly puberulent; glabrous below except slightly pubescent along the base of the midvein; lateral veins ca. 5 pairs, impressed above, inconspicuous below; margins sparsely serrate, teeth separation 2-3 mm; petioles 1-1. 5 mm long, slightly puberulent. Flowers terminal or axillary, white, 1 cm long, glabrous; pedicels 2 mm long; bracts 4, ovate, 1-1. 5 mm long, ciliate; sepals 5, broadly ovate, 2 mm long, apices obtuse, ciliate; petals 5, outer 2 suborbicular, 7-8 mm long, bases slightly connate, inner 3 basally adnate with stamens for ca. 2 mm, obovoid, 1 cm long; stamens 8-9 mm long, outer stamens adnate with petals, others free, glabrous; ovaries glabrous; styles7-8 mm long glabrous, apices shallowly 3-cleft. Capsules pyriform, 1 cm long, 7-8 mm wide, 2-3-locular, 1 seed perlocule, valves ca 1 mm thick, base with persistent sepals and bracts; pedicels dilated, 5-6mm long. Flowers are white, slightly fragrant,2.0-3.0 cm in diameter, borne at the tips of shoots and in leaf axils. Pedicels 2 mm long. Bracts 4, ciliate. Sepals 5, persistent, ciliate. Petals 5, 1.5-1.8 cm long, obovate with rounded tip, slightly fused at the base with the staminal column. Androecium glabrous, 8-10 mm long, outer stamens fused at the base into a short column. Gynoecium 7-10 mm long, 3 styles shallowly cleft at the tip, ovary glabrous. Blooming season: late winter to early spring. Capsules ovate to pyriform, 7-8 mm in diameter, 2-3 locules, pericarp wall 1 mm thick. Leaves ovate to broadly elliptic, tip bluntly acuminate to acuminate, base cuneate, 2.0-3.0 cm long, 1.0-1.7 cm wide, margin sparsely serrulate, upper surface with the lateral veins impressed, midrib slightly pubescent, lower surface with the midrib slightly pubescent. Petioles 1-2 mm long. Shrub up to 3 m tall, young shoots villous, older branches smooth, gray-brown in color. Distribution: Under forest canopy or along roadsides in Sichuan Province and western Hubei Province, particularly Xingshan County; Elevation: 800-1,200 m; Specific locality: Emei Mountain, Emei City, Sichuan Province, China.

Sunyatsen);成都,草堂,栽培,张宏达5509。湖北:兴山,海拔200米,李洪均1861【形态特征】灌木,高1.5-3米;嫩枝有披散柔毛。叶革质,卵形或椭圆形,长2-3厘米,宽1-1.6厘米,先端尖而有钝头,基部阔楔形,上面深绿色,干后略有光泽,无毛,或中脉基部略有短毛,下面除中脉基部有毛外,秃净,侧脉约5对,在上面陷下,在下面不明显,边缘有疏锯齿,齿刻相隔2-3毫米,叶柄长11.5毫米,略有短毛。花顶生及腋生,花梗长2毫米;苞片4片,阔卵形,长2毫米,先端钝,有睫毛。花冠白色,长1厘米,无毛;花瓣5片,外侧2片近圆形,长7-8毫米,基部略相连生,其余3片基部与雄蕊连生约2毫米,倒卵圆形,长1厘米。雄蕊长8-9毫米,除基部与花瓣连生外,其余部份分离,无毛。子房无毛,花柱长7-8毫米,无毛,先端3浅裂。蒴果梨形,长1厘米,宽7-8毫米,2-3室,每室有种子1粒,果爿厚约1毫米,基部有宿存萼片及苞片;果梗增粗,长5-6毫米。
