[Description] Small tree or shrub; branchlets glabrous, older branches greyish-brown in the drystate. Leaves thickly coriaceous, ovate-oblong or elliptic, 6-9 cm long, 2.5-4.5 cm wide, apices slightly acute or obtuse, or abruptly acute, bases broadly cuneate or nearlyrounded; dark green above in the dry state, shiny; yellowish-green or brown below; lateral veins 5-7 pairs, sunken above, slightly protruding below; reticulating veinssunken above, obscure below; margins serrulate; petioles 7-10 mm long, deeplygrooved above. Flowers axillary or terminal, sessile; bracts and sepals 8, pubescent inthe middle of the outer surface, inner surface glabrous, margins thin, membranous, early deciduous; petals ca. 7 , obovate, 1.5-2. 5 cm long, bases cuneate, outer surfacesomewhat pubescent; stamens 1-1.3 cm long, basal 3 mm adnate with petals; filamenttube 2-3 mm long; ovaries pubescent, styles3-parted, completely free, densely greyish-white pilose, 1. 6-1. 8 cm long. Du Tahua 48 from Jinyun Shan of Beipei has leaves oblong, not shiny in the dry state, margins with uneven blunt serrations; terminal young fruit, surface without tuberclesbut with 4 shallow grooves. This collection could belong to this species.

Flowers are white, 4.0-4.5 cm in diameter, bom at the tips of shoots and in leaf axils. Perules 8, slightly persistent, center of outer surface yellow-brownish-pubescent. Petals7-8, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 1.2-2.0 cm wide, obovate, outer surface slightly pubescent. Androecium 1.0-1.3 cm long, united from the base with the staminal column up to 3 mm. Gynoecium pubescent, 1.6-1.8 cm long, 3 styles, free, not fused at the base, ovary tomentose. Blooming season: late autumn to early winter. Capsules globose, green, 3 locules, pericarp wall 1-2 mm thick. Leaves elliptic to ovate-elliptic, tip acuminate or obtuse, base broadly cuneate, 6.0-10.0 cm long, 2.5-5.0 cm wide, margin thinly serrulate, thickly coriaceous, upper surface with lateral veins impressed, lower surface with lateral veins raised. Petioles 6-10 mm long, pubescent. Shrub or small tree up to 4 m tall, young shoots glabrous, older branches smooth, gray-brown in color. Distribution: Under the canopy of evergreen forests on moun-tains near Chongqing City; Elevation: 700-950 m; Specific locality: Jinyunshan, Beibei, Chongqing City, China.

重庆山茶Camellia chungkingensis Chang, sp. nov. 张宏达，1981. 《山茶属植物的系统研究》第44页。【标本】四川：重庆，北碚，1937年11月，曲仲湘4181(模式Typus，in Bot. Inst, Acad. Sin. Peking)；同地，姚仲明5277，同地，缙云山复查组081。另有杜大华48采自北碚缙云山的标本，叶片干后不发亮，长圆形，有不规则的 疏纯齿，枝顶有幼果，无瘤状突起，但有浅直沟4条，有可能属于这个种。【形态特征】小乔木或灌木，嫩枝无毛，老枝干后灰褐色。叶厚革质，卵状长圆形或椭圆 形，长6-9厘米，宽2.5-4.5厘米，先端略尖或钝，或急短尖，基部阔楔形或近圆形，上面干后深绿色，发亮，下面黄绿色或褐色；侧脉5-7对，在上面下陷，在下面略突起，网脉在上面下陷，在下面不明显；边缘有细锯齿；叶柄长7-10毫米，上部有深沟。花腋生及顶生，无柄，白色；苞片及萼片8,背面近中部有毛，内面无毛，边缘薄，膜质，易碎；花瓣约7片，倒卵形，长1.5-2.5厘米，基部联合，外面多少有毛；雄蕊长1-1.3厘米，基部3毫米与花瓣连合，花丝管长2-3毫米；子房被毛，花柱3条，完全分离，密生灰白色长毛，长1.6-1.8厘米。这个种的叶片卵状长圆形，厚革质，基部略圆，先端稍钝，侧脉5-7对，苞被只有8片，花柱有浓厚的绒毛。

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第208页。 花白色，花径4.0~4.5厘米，顶生或腋生。鳞片8枚，略宿存，表面中部被黄褐色柔毛。花瓣7〜8枚，长1.5~2.5厘米，宽1.2~2.0厘米，倒卵形，背面略被柔毛。雄蕊长1.0~1.3厘米，基部连生3毫米。雌蕊被柔毛，长1.6~1.8厘米，花柱3条，离生，子房被绒毛。花期秋末至冬初。菊果球形，3至，果皮厚1~2毫米。叶椭圆形至卵状长圆形，先端渐尖或钝状，基部阔楔形，长6.0~10.0厘米，宽2.5~5.0厘米，边缘具细齿，厚 革质，叶面侧脉凹陷，叶背侧脉凸起。叶柄长610毫米,被毛。灌木或小乔木，高可达4米，嫩枝无毛，老枝光滑，灰褐色。分布：重庆一带的山地常绿林下，海拔700-950米。 可寻地点:重庆市北碚缙云山。
