[Description] Tree 8 m tall, branchlets glabrous; bud bracts ca. 15, puberulent. Leaves coriaceous, oblong-oblanceolate or oblong, 8-12 cm long, 3-4 cm wide, apices acuminate, basescuneate, decurrent; olive-green above in the dry state，shiny; light brown below, glabrous; new leaves dark, glabrous; lateral veins 6 pairs, forming an angle of 35° fromthe midvein, visible on the upper surface, obscure on the lower surface; except for thebasal 1/4 the margins are sharply serrate, teeth separation 2 mm; petioles 1.5-2 cm long, glabrous. Flowers 1-2 terminal, pink, sessile; flower buds elliptic-ovate, 2. 2 cm long, 1. 3cm wide; bracts and sepals 8, coriaceous; lower 3 perules semiorbicular, 3-6 mm long, outer surface pubescent; inner 5 perules suborbicular, 1.7 cm long, both surfaces pubescent; petals 8, back of outer 2-3 pubescent, inner 5-6 glabrous, obovate, basally connate; stamens in 4 series, outer whorl of stamens basally adnate with petals, innerwhorl free, glabrous; ovaries pubescent; styles basally pubescent, apex deeply 3-cleft. Capsules globose, 4 cm in diameter, greyish-brown pubescent, 3-locular, pericarp 4mm thick, 1-2 seeds per locule.

Flowers are pink, 6.0-7.0 cm in diameter, borne in multiples at the tips of shoots. Perules 8, pubescent on both sides. Petals 7-8, 3.0-4.0 cm long, 1.8-3.0 cm wide, broadly obovate, tip rounded or slightly emarginate, margin creped, slightly united at the base with the staminal column. Androecium glabrous, 1.5-2.0 cm long, outer layer of stamens fused at the base into a short tube. Gynoecium 1.5-2.2 cm long, 3 styles slightly divided at the tip, ovary tomentose. Blooming season: late winter to early spring.Capsules globose, surface pubescent, 3.0-4.0 cm in diameter, 3 locules, pericarp wall 3-4 mm in thickness.Leaves oblong to oblong-oblanceolate, tip acuminate, base cuneate, 8.0-12.0 cm long, 3.0-4.0 cm wide, margin thinly serrulate on upper half, upper surface with lateral veins visible, lower surface smooth, glabrous. Petiole 1.3-2.0 cm long. Shrub or small tree up to 8 m tall, young shoots glabrous, older branches smooth, gray-brown in color. Austro-Sin.)临桂，黄 沙乡，陈照宙50898。湖南：宁远，李学根62519。【形态特征】乔木，高8米，嫩枝无毛，芽体有鱗苞约15片，有短毛，叶革质，长圆状倒披 针形，或长圆形，长9-12厘米，宽3-4厘米，先端渐尖，基部楔形，下延，上面干后橄榄绿色，发亮，嫩叶则暗晦，无毛，下面浅褐色，无毛，侧脉约6对，以35°开角急直向上，在上面能见，在下面不明显，边缘除基部1/4外，有锐利锯齿，齿刻相隔2毫米，叶柄长1.5-2厘米，无毛。花1-2朵生枝顶，粉红色，无柄，花蕾椭圆卵形，长2.2厘米，宽1.3厘米，苞片及萼片8片，革质，最下3片半圆形，长3-6毫来，背面有毛，内侧5片近圆形，长1.7厘米，两面有毛。花瓣8片，最外2-3片背面有毛，内侧5-6片无毛，倒卵形，基部连生。雄蕊4轮，外轮雄蕊与花瓣基部连生，内轮离生，无毛。子房有毛，花柱基部有毛，先端3浅裂。蒴果圆球形，直径4厘米，被灰褐毛，3室，果片厚4毫米，种子1-2个。

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第40页。花粉红色，花径6.0~7.0厘米，多花顶生。鱗片8枚，两面被短柔毛。花瓣7~8枚，长3.0-4.0厘米, 宽1.8~3.0厘米，阔倒卵形，先端圆或具凹缺，边缘起皱,基部与雄蕊柱略连生。雄蕊无毛，长1.5~2.0厘米，外轮 花丝基部连生形成短管。雌蕊长1.5~2.2厘米，花柱先端 3浅裂，子房被绒毛。花期冬末至春初。蒴果球形，表面被毛，直径3.0~4.0厘米，3室，果皮厚3~4毫米。叶长圆形或长圆状倒披针形，先端渐尖，基部楔形，长 8.0~12.0厘米，宽3.0~4.0厘米，边缘上半部具细齿，叶面侧脉可见，叶背光滑，无毛。叶柄长1.3~2.0厘米。 灌木或小乔木，高可达8米，嫩枝无毛，老枝光滑，灰褐色。分布：广西壮族自治区北部、湖南省西南部和贵州省北部一带的深山区，海拔700-1000米。可寻地点:贵州省遵义市仙源镇石洞。
