» Description

Camellia dongnaiensis Orel. First published in Novon 16: 244 (2006).

The specimen was discovered by G. Orel, G. Richards, A. Curry and G. Wilkes in 2004, at an unknown mountain in Lam Dong. In 2006,  G. Orel published a new species in Novon  with the scientific name Camellia dongnaiensis, the Vietnamese name is Dong Nai Camellia because the sample was first discovered in a rocky location in the headwaters of the Dong Nai River. 

Camellia dongnaiensis resembles C. vidalii in having leaf blades narrowly obovate, 35–44 cm long, both surfaces glabrous; flowers axillary, 4–7.5 cm in diam.; pedicel 2.5–4.5 cm long, glabrous; petals 8–10, oval or pentagonal; ovary 5(or 6); style free, 5–6.
