湖北瘤果茶 Camellia hupehensis Hung T.ChangCamellia hupehensis

Bracts and sepals 10-11, villous, bracts 5-11 mm long, sepals 1.0-1.5 cm long. Petals 7, broadly obovate, 4.0 cm long, 2.0 cm wide, slightly pubescent, slightly fused at the base. Androecium 2.0 cm long, fused at the base. Gynoecium 2.0 cm long, 3 styles, free, not fused, at the base, ovary glabrous. Blooming season: autumn. Capsules globose, 1.5-2.0 cm in diameter, 3 locules, densely tuberculate and wrinkled on the surface, pericarp wall 1.5-2.0 mm thick. Seeds glabrous. Leaves long-ovate, tip caudate-acuminate, base cuneate, 5.0-7.0 cm long, 1.7-2.5 cm wide, thinly serrulate, upper surface veins not obvious, lower surface glabrous. Petioles 3-5 mm long, glabrous. Shrub up to 3 m tall, young shoots puberulent, brownish, older branches smooth, cinnamon in color. Distribution: Southwestern Hubei Province; Elevation: 500-800 m; Specific locality: Pingbaying, Xianfeng County, Enshi area, Hubei Province, China.

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第275页。花白色，花径6.0~7.0厘米，单花顶生。苞片和萼片10-11枚，被柔毛，苞片长5~11毫米，萼片长1.0~1.5厘米。花瓣7枚，阔倒卵形，长约4.0厘米，宽约2.0厘米，略被毛，基部连生。雄蕊长2.0厘米，基部合生。雌蕊长2.0厘米，花柱3条，基部离生，子房无毛。花期秋季。蒴果球形，直径1.5~2.0厘米，3室，表面具很多瘤状凸起和褶皱，果皮厚1.5~2.0毫米。种子无毛。叶长卵形，先端尾状渐尖，基部圆形，长5.0~7.0厘米，宽1.7~2.5厘米，叶齿细，叶面网脉不明显，叶背无毛。叶柄长3~5毫米。灌木，局3米，嫩枝被微毛，褐色，老枝光滑，黄褐色。分布：湖北省的西南部， 海拔500-800米。可寻地点： 湖北省恩施地区的咸丰县平坝营。
