Flowers are white, fragrant, 2.0-3.5 cm in diameter, borne at the tips of shoots or in leaf axils. Pedicels 2-3 mm long,glabrous. Bracts 4. puberulent on the outer surface, Sepals 5, slightly persistent, silky-pubescent on the outer surface. Petals 5-6, 1.5-2.1 cm long, 1.2-1.6 cm wide, obovate with rounded tip, united at the base with the staminal column. Androecium glabrous, 1.2-1.6 cm long, outer filaments united at the base to form a tube. Gynoecium 1.5-1.8 mm long, 3 styles shallowly cleft at the tip, ovary glabrous. Blooming season: early spring. Capsules long-ovoid£"about 2.2 cm long, 2-3 locules, pericarp wall 1 mm in thickness. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, tip caudate, base broadly cuneate, 8.0-9.0 cm long, 1.3-2.0 cm wide, margin bluntly and thinly serrulate, upper and lower surfaces smooth and glabrous. Petioles 3-5 mm long, slightly pubescent on the upper side. Shrub up to 2 m tall, young shoots puberulent, older branches grayish-brown. Distribution:Hengshan to Yongzhou,Daoxian, Ningyuan and Yizhang in southern Hunan Province.Elevation: 500-800 m.Specific locality: Jiuyi Mountain, Ningyuan County, Hunan Province,China.

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第244页。花白色，有芳香，花径2.0~3.5厘米，多顶生或腋生。花柄长2~3毫米，无毛。苞片4枚，表面被微毛，萼片5枚，略宿存，表面被绢毛。花瓣5~6枚，长1.5~2.1厘米，宽1.2~1.6厘米，倒卵形，先端圆形，基部与雄蕊柱连生。雄蕊无毛，长1.2~1.6厘米，基部连生形成短管。雌蕊长1.5~1.8厘米，花柱先端3浅裂，子房无毛。花期早春。蒴果长卵球形，长约2.2厘米，2~3室，果皮厚约1毫米。叶长圆状披针形，先端尾状渐尖，基部宽楔形，长8.0~ 9.0厘米，宽1.3~2.0厘米，边缘具细钝齿，叶片两面光滑无毛。叶柄长3~5毫米，上面略被短柔毛。灌木，高可达2米，嫩枝被微毛，老枝灰褐色。分布：湖南省南部的衡山至永州、道县、宁远、宜章一带，海拔500-800米。可寻地点:湖南省宁远县九嶷山。
