Camellia krempfii, Subgenus Protocamellia, Sect. stereocarpus, Chang Hung-ta and Bruce Bartholomew (1984). Camellias, p.32: Camellia krempfii (Gagnep.) Sealy, Kew Bull. 1949(2): 219. 1949. [Description] Branchlets glabrous. Leaves oblong, 30 cm long, subsessile, bases cordate, lateral veins to 20 pairs, petioles 1-1. 5 cm long. Bracts and sepals 15, persistent; petals 10, 3.5 cm long, red; filaments basally connate into a tube; ovaries 5-locular, pubescent; styles5-parted, free. This species is close to subgen. Camellia sect. Camellia. It is a transitional species to this section. [Synonym] Thea krempfii Gagnep., Not. Syst. 10: 127. 1942.
The specimen was first discovered by M. Krempf in 1912 in the Hon Ba area (Khanh Hoa). In 1942, F. Gagnepain first published in the book Notulae Systematicae (Publishing Director: H. Humbert) under the scientific name Thea krempfii Gagnep. In 1949, in the Kew Bulletin, J. R. Sealy changed the scientific name to Camellia krempfii (Gagnep.) Sealy, this is the official name of the species. The species name bears the name of the person who discovered the first specimen as M. Krempf.

越南长叶山茶Camellia krempfii (Gagnep.) Sealy in Kew Bull. 1949, 219； Rev. Gen. 张宏达，1981. 《山茶属植物的系统研究》第17页。【标本】越南Vietnam：葵州，Kecan Tung Huona区，海拔170-210米，乔木，高4米，生常绿林，花红色，1965年1月25日，中越考察队（Exped. Sinica-Viet-namica) 1790。【形态特征】嫩枝无毛，叶长圆形，长30厘米，近无柄，基部心形，侧脉多于20对，花柄长1-1.5厘米，苞及萼片15,宿存，花瓣红色，10片，长3.5厘米，花丝基部连合成管，子房5室，有毛，花柱5条，离生。这个种可能和山茶亚属Camellia的红山茶组Camellia有联系。从这个种所代表的一群过渡到红山茶组。
