Flowers are pale red to deep pink,8.0-10,0 cm in diameter, borne singly at the tips of shoots. Perules 9-10, outer surface gray-pubescent. Petals 8-9, 4.0-5.0 cm long, obovate, tip emarginate, united with the staminal column from the base up to 10 mm. Androecium glabrous, 2.5-3.0 cm long, outer layer of stamens fused from the base into a short tube 15 mm long. Gynoecium 2.5-3.0 cm long, 3 styles shallowly divided at the tip, ovary white-tomentose. Blooming season: spring. Capsules oblate, 5.0-6.0 cm in diameter, 3 locules, pericarp wall about 10 mm thick. Seeds glabrous. Leaves oblong, tip acuminate, base cuneate, 8.0-15.0 cm long,4.5-6.5 cm wide, margin thickly serrulate, both surfaces smooth, lower surface with cork-warts. Petiole about 10 mm long.Small tree up to 5 m tall, young shoots glabrous, terminal buds slightly puberulent, older branches smooth, reddish-brown in color. Distribution: Vicinity of Anshi City, Lichuan County, Xianfeng County, etc., southwestern Hubei Province; Elevation: 300-700 m; Specific locality: Hongjiatai, Enshi City, Hubei Province, China.

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第51页。花淡红色至深粉红色，花径8.0~10.0厘米，单花顶生。鱗片9~10枚，外面被灰色柔毛。花瓣8~9枚，长4.0~5.0厘米，倒卵形，先端凹缺，基部连生10毫米。雄蕊无毛，长2.5〜3.0厘米，外轮花丝基部与雄蕊柱连生形成15毫米长短管。雌蕊长2.5~3.0厘米，花柱先端3浅裂，子房被白色绒毛。花期春季。蒴果扁球形，直径5.0~6.0厘米，3室，果皮厚约10毫米。种子无毛。叶长圆形，先端渐尖，基部楔形，长8.0-15.0厘米， 宽4.5~6.5厘米，边缘具粗齿，叶片两面光滑，叶背有腺点。叶柄长10毫米。小乔木，高可达5米，嫩枝无毛，顶芽被微毛，老枝光滑，红褐色。分布：湖北省西南部的恩施地区，包括利川、咸丰等 县，海拔300-700米。可寻地点:湖北省恩施市洪家台。
