[Description] Small tree 5 m tall, branchlets glabrous. Leaves coriaceous, ovoid or elliptic, 7-10 cmlong, 3-5. 5 cm wide, apices acute, bases rounded or obtuse, sides not quite equal; deepgreen above in the dry state, shiny; yellowish-green below, glabrous; lateral veins 6-7pairs, obscure on both surfaces; margins serrulate; petioles 7-10 mm long, glabrous. Flowers solitary, terminal, peach-blossom-red, 8-9 cm in diameter, sessile; bracts and sepals 8, outer 2-3 crescent shaped, 2-5 mm long, 3-8 mm wide, with a midrib, exteriorsericeous; inner 5 perules obovoid, 1. 2-2. 2 cm long, pubescent; petals 6, obovoid, 3.5-4. 5 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, basally connate for 5-7 mm, glabrous or apically pubescent; stamens 2-2. 5 cm long, in 3-4 series, lower half of outer filament whorl connate, filament tube 1-1.3 cm long, basal 4-5 mm adnate with petals, free filaments glabrous; ovaries pubescent; styles 3-parted, ca. 1. 5 cm long glabrous. This species has peach-blossom-red or pink flowers and completely free styles which differentiates it from other members of section Camellia. Aside from this species theonly other member of this section with free styles is C. hongkongensis.

Flowers are pink or red, 8.0-9.0 cm in diameter, borne singly at the tips of shoots. Perules 8, outside silky-pubescent. Petals 6-7, 3.5-4.5 cm long, 2.0-3.0 cm wide, obovate, tip rounded or slightly emarginate, slightly united at the base with the staminal column. Androecium 2.0-2.5 cm long, outer layer of stamens fused from the base into a tube 10-13 mm long. Gynoecium glabrous, 1.5-1.8 cm long, 3 styles slightly divided at the tip, ovary tomentose. Blooming season: spring. Capsules globose with a small beak at the tip, reddish-brown in color, 3.0-3.5 cm in diameter, 3 locules, pericarp wall 5-6 mm thick. Seeds glabrous. Leaves oblong to elliptic, tip acuminate, base rounded, 7.0-10.0 cm long, 3.0-3.5 cm wide, margin thinly serrulate, upper and lower surfaces smooth, lateral veins not clear. Petiole 7-10 mm long. Small tree up to 5 m tall, young shoots glabrous, older branches smooth, gray-brown in color. Distribution: Where Guangxi is bounded on the north by Hunan Province; Elevation: 300-800 m; Special locality: Hongmaochong, Huaping Natural Preserve, Guangxi, China.

Inst.Austro-Sin.)；龙胜，花坪，1962年4月10日，花粉红色，袁淑芬、刘兰芳5153；龙胜，华南植物所广福林区调查队117。【形态特征】小乔木，高5米，嫩枝无毛。叶革质，卵圆形或椭圆形，长7-10厘米，宽3-5.5厘米，先端尖锐，基部圆或钝，稍不等侧，上面干后深绿色,有光泽，下面黄绿色，无毛，侧脉6-7对，在上下两面均不明显，边缘有细锯齿，叶柄长7-10毫米，无毛。花单生于枝顶，桃红色，直径8-9厘米，无柄；苞片及萼片8片，最下面2-3片半月形，长2-5毫米，宽3-8毫米，有中肋，外侧有短绢毛，其余5片倒卵圆形，长1.2-2.2厘米，有毛。花瓣6片，倒卵圆形，长3.5-4.5厘米，宽2-3厘米，基部相连合5-7毫米，无毛或近先端无毛或近先端有毛。雄蕊长2-2.5厘米，3-4轮，外 轮花丝下半部连合，花丝管长1-1.3厘米，其中4-5毫米与花瓣连生，游离花丝无毛。子房有毛。花柱3条，长约1.5厘米，无毛。这个种具有桃红色或浅红色的花，花柱完全离生，易与其他红山茶组的种类区别开来。除了本种之外，本组只有香港红山茶C.hongrongensis Seem.具离生的花柱。

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第53页。花粉红色或红色，花径8.0~9.0厘米，单花顶生。鳞片8枚，外面被绢毛。花瓣6~7枚，长3.5〜4.5厘米，宽2.0~3.0厘米，倒卵形，先端圆或略凹缺，基部与雄蕊柱略连生。雄蕊长2.0~2.5厘米，外轮花丝基部连生，形成10~13毫米长短管。雌蕊无毛，长1.5~1.8厘米，花柱先端3裂，子房被绒毛。花期春季。蒴果球形，先端有短啄，红褐色，直径3.0~3.5厘米，3室，果皮厚5~6毫米。种子无毛。叶长圆形至椭圆形，先端尖，基部圆形，长7.0~10.0厘米，宽3.0~3.5厘米，边缘具细齿，叶片两面光滑，侧脉不明显。叶柄长7~10毫米。小乔木，高可达5米，嫩枝无毛，老枝光滑，灰褐色。分布：广西壮族自治区北部与湖南省交界的区域，海 拔300-800米。可寻地点:广西壮族自治区龙胜县花坪自然保护区红毛冲。
