Flowers are deep pink to light-red,5.0- 7.0 cm in diameter, borne at the tips of twigs and in leaf axils. Perules 9-10, outer surface pubescent. Petals 7-9, 2.5-4.5 cm long,2.0- 3.0 cm wide, obovate, tip emarginate, outer petals pubescent on back. Androecium glabrous, 2.0-2.3 cm long, outer filaments fused from the base into a tube 10 mm long. Gynoecium glabrous,2.0- 2.5 cm long, 3 styles slightly divided at the tip, ovary glabrous. Bloom season: late autumn to early spring. Capsules globose, 4.0-6.0 cm in diameter, 3 locules. Seeds tomentose. Leaves elliptic, tip acute, base broadly cuneate, 8.0-16.0 cm long,4.0- 7.0 cm wide, margin sparsely serrulate on upper half of blade, upper surface with lateral veins visible, lower surface with both midrib and lateral veins raised, glabrous. Petiole 10-18 mm long.Shrub or small tree up to 7 m tall, young shoots glabrous, older branches smooth, gray-brown in color. Distribution: Ruyuan County in southern Guangdong Province and contiguous areas in southern Jiangxi Province; Elevation: 1,200-1,700 m; Specific locality: Around the TV tower at Tianjingshan, Tianjingshan Forest Farm, Ruyuan County, Guangdong Province, China.

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第58页。花深粉红色至淡红色，花径5.0~7.0厘米，顶生或腋生。鱗片9~10枚，外面被短柔毛。花瓣7~9枚，长2.5~4.5厘米，宽2.0~3.0厘米，倒卵形，先端凹缺，最外侧的花瓣被短柔毛。雄蕊无毛，长2.0~2.3厘米，外轮花丝基部荜生形成10毫米长短管。雌蕊无毛，长2.0~2.5厘米,花柱先端3裂，子房无毛。花期秋末至舂初。蒴果球形，直径4.0~ 6.0厘米，3室。种子被柔毛。叶椭圆形，先端急尖，基部阔楔形，长8.0~16.0厘米，宽4.0~7.0厘米，上半部边缘具疏齿，叶表面侧脉可见，叶背主脉和侧脉凸起，无毛。叶柄长10~18毫米。灌木或小乔木，高可达7米，嫩技无毛，老枝光滑，灰褐色。分布：广东省北部的乳源县以及与江西省南部接壌的 地区，海拔1200-1700米。可寻地点:广东省乳源县天井山林场电视塔附近。
