Camellia murauchii Ninh & Hakoda. First published in Int. Camellia J. 30: 77 (1998). Typus TN98906, Vietnam National University Herbarium, colI. Tran Ninh 17.1.98
Small tree, 4-5 m high, young branches deep brown, glabrous. Leaves shortly stalked; blades coriaceous, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, 27.3-33.5 cm long and 14.9-17.1 cm wide, acuminate or cuspidate-acuminate, auriculate and amplexicaul at base, bright green and shining above, glabrous, pale green and pubescent below, lateral veins 17-20 pairs, sunken above, protruding below, venation reticulate, margins very acute denticulate, teeth mostly 2-4 mm apart; petioles 5-7 mm long, pubescent. Flowers pedicellate, solitary at the ends of young branches; pedicels 1 cm long, bearing 7 separated bracteoles; bracteoles 4-7 mm long and 5 mm wide, glabrous; sepals 5, oblong and narrow at the tip, 8-15 mm long and 10-12 mm wide, glabrous, bracteoles and sepals persistent at young fruit. Petals and androecium not seen. Gynoecium glabrous; ovaries 3 loculi; styles 3, 2.3-2.5 cm long, free to the base. Young fruit depressed globose with 3 strong longitudinal ribs. Seed not seen.
Yen Thinh, about 30 km northwest of Huu Lung, Lang Son, Vietnam: evergreen forest surrounded by limestone hills. Flowers in December.
This species resembles C.megasepala Chang et Ninh by very
large leaves and cordate at base, but differs in having larger leaves, lateral
veins 17-20 pairs rather than 12-13 pairs, glabrous gynoecium, and flowers in
December rather than March and April. Named after its discoverer, Shigeyuki Murauchi,
International Camellia Society Membership Representative for Asia.

小乔木,高4-5米,幼枝深褐色,无毛。叶有短柄;叶片革质,椭圆形或长圆状椭圆形,长 27.3-33.5 厘米,宽 14.9-17.1 厘米,渐尖或骤尖,基部耳形和抱茎,翠绿色,上面有光泽。 宽1厘米,渐尖或骤尖渐尖,基部耳形和抱茎,上面翠绿发亮,无毛,下面淡绿色,被短柔毛,侧脉17-20对,上面凹陷,下面突出,脉序网状,边缘具非常锐尖的小齿,齿间大多相距2-4毫米;叶柄长5-7毫米,被短柔毛。花有花梗,单生于幼枝末端;花梗长1厘米,有7个分开的小苞片;小苞片长4-7毫米,宽5毫米,无毛;萼片5,长圆形,顶端狭窄,长8-15毫米,宽10-12毫米,无毛,小苞片和萼片在幼果期宿存。花瓣和雄蕊群未见。雌蕊群无毛;子房 3 室;花柱 3,长 2.3-2.5 厘米,离生至基部。幼果扁球形,有 3 条强壮的长肋。种子未见。
该种与 C. megasepala Chang et Ninh 相似,叶片非常大,基部心形,但不同之处在于叶片更大,侧脉 17-20 对而不是 12-13 对,雌蕊无毛,花期在 12 月而不是 3 月和 4 月。以其发现者、国际山茶花协会亚洲会员代表村内重幸的名字命名。
注:南宁市金花茶公园2021《国内外金花茶物种图鉴》第116-117页所记载的"黄抱茎金花茶Camellia murauchii Ninh et Hakoda",其叶片小太多了,根据描述和图片,应为定天金花茶 Camellia tienii.
