Flowers are pale yellow, with purple-red coloration on buds and markings on petals, 3.5-4.0 cm in diameter, borne at the tips of shoots and in leaf axils. Pedicels 3-6 mm long. Bracts 3-7. Sepals 5, inside surface white pubescent, margin ciliate. Petals 8-9, 1.2-3.0 cm long, 0.9-2.0 cm wide, ovate to obovate. Androecium glabrous, 9-10 mm long, outermost stamens slightly fused at the base into a short column. Gynoecium 1.0-1.3 cm long, 3 styles, free, not fused at the base, ovaiy glabrous. Blooming season: nearly all year. Capsules oblate, 2.5-3.5 cm in diameter, 3 locules, pericarp wall 1-1.5 mm thick. Seeds pubescent. Leaves elliptic to long elliptic, tip acute or caudate, base rounded to broadly cuneate, 7.0-13.5 cm long, 3.0-5.0 cm wide, margin thinly serrulate, upper surface with lateral veins and midrib slightly impressed, glabrous, lower surface with lateral veins and midrib raised, glabrous, cork-warts. Petioles 7-10 mm long, pubescent. Shrub or small tree up to 4 m tall, young shoots reddish brown, older branches glabrous, yellow-brown in color. Distribution: Under the canopy of evergreen forests on limestone hills from Ningming County to Pingxiang City in southern Guangxi; Elevation: 190-230 m; Specific locality: Xian shi Township, Ningming County, Guangxi, China.
