» Description

[Description] Shrub or small tree, nearly 5. 5 m tall; branchlets terete, densely hirsute, base withclose grouped ring scars. Leaves thinly coriaceous; oblong, oblong-elliptic or long-elliptic; 11-17(-21) cm long, 3.5-6 (-8) cm wide; apices caudate, rarely abruptlyacuminate, apiculate; bases rounded to cuneate; margins finely serrulate; dark-greenabove, shiny, smooth and glabrous; yellowish-green below, dark-punctate, denselyvillous; midvein sunken above, protruding below; lateral veins 8-10, level on top, protruding below; petioles 5-10 mm long, densely hirsute. Flowers golden yellow, 5-6. 5 cm in diameter, terminal or axillary, solitary, seldom 2, nearly sessile; bracts and sepals 12-14, gradually increasing in size from outer to inner, sublunate, broadly ovateto suborbicular, 3-21 mm long, outer surfaces puberulent, margins short ciliate; petals9-13, ovate, obovate or orbicular, 3. 2-4. 5 cm long, 1.5-2. 5 cm wide, bases somewhat connate, outside puberulent; stamens in many series, 5-6 whorls, filaments puberulent; outer whorl connate for 1.4 cm, adnate with petals for ca. 1 cm, inner whorl free; ovaries3-4-locular, suborbicular, ca. 3 cm in diameter, densely puberulent; styles 2. 6-3 cmlong, puberulent, apices 3-4-cleft, depth of clefts ca. 1/3 the style length. Blooming period November to April. Fruit not seen. This species is similar to C. impressinervis except that bracts, sepals, petal outersurfaces and filaments are all puberulent; style bases connate, apices 3-4-cleft; bothstyles and ovaries puberulent, flowers subsessile.

Fang in Acta Botanica Yunnanica vol. 2. no. 3. 337. 1980. 张宏达,1981. 《山茶属植物的系统研究》第107页。【标本】广西:防城,滩散公社,海拔310米的石灰岩山地沟谷林中,10-11月开花,黄色,覃德海、李春迎76658 (模式)。【形态特征】灌木或小乔木;嫩枝无毛。叶革质,长圆形或狭椭圆形,长7-9.5厘米,宽2.7-3.5厘米,先端急短尖,基部阔楔形,上面无毛,干后稍发亮,下面有细小黑腺点,侧脉7-9对,边缘有细锯齿,叶柄长3-5毫米。花单生于叶腋,金黄色,直径4.5-5.5厘米;花柄长2-3毫米;苞片4-5,紧密叠置,长1-2毫米;萼片5-6,近圆形,长5-8毫米,外面有柔毛,边缘薄膜状;花瓣6-7片,长2-2.8厘米,基部略连生;雄蕊多轮,长7-9毫米,无毛,近离生;子房有毛,花柱3条离生,长5-7毫米。蒴果球形,3爿裂开。本种近似东兴金花茶C. tunghinensis Chang,但叶片的侧脉较多,花较大,子房被毛。
