» Description

Gao Jiyin, Clifford R. Parks, Du Yueqiang, 2005, Collected Species of the Genus Camellia an Illustrated Outline,p.138. Flowers are white, 1.0-2.0 cm in diameter, borne at the tips of shoots and in leaf axils. Pedicels about 1.5 mm long. Bracts 6, persistent. Sepals 5, outer surface pubescent, inside surface glabrous. Petals 5-7, 9-15 mm long and 6-9 mm wide, obovate to broadly obovate, united from the base with the staminal column up to 1 mm. Androecium 7-10 mm long, anthers pilose, outermost stamens fused from the base into a tube 4-6 mm long. Gynoecium glabrous, 1.1-1.7 cm in length, 3 styles, slightly divided at the tip, ovary tomentose. Blooming season: spring. Capsules globose, slightly puberulent, 1.2-1.4 cm in diameter, 1-2 locules, pericarp wall 1 mm thick. Seeds glabrous. Leaves oblong to narrowly ovate, tip caudate, base cuneate or rounded, 4.0-7.5 cm long, 1.7-3.0 cm wide, margin thinly serrulate, thinly coriaceous, upper surface glabrous, lower surface pubescent, midribs slightly raised on both sides of blade. Petioles 2-3 mm long, pubescent. Shrub up to 3 m tall, young shoots pubescent, older branches smooth. Distribution: Northwestern Guangdong Province; Elevation: 200-500 m; Specific locality: Yangshan County, Guangdong Province, China. In addition, it is cultivated at Sun Yatsen University, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China.

毛药山茶最近一次于 2015年进行了IUCN濒危等级评估,被评为易危 Vulnerable(VU)。
