» Description

Camellia salicifolia, Subgenus Metacamellia, Sect. Eriandria, Chang Hung-ta and Bruce Bartholomew (1984). Camellias, p.207: Camellia salicifolia Champ. ex Benth. in Hook., Journ. Bot. 3: 309. 1851. [Description] Branchlets very villous. Leaves thin, lanceolate, pubescent. Sepals linear-lanceolate, 1-1. 5 cm long; filaments connate into a tube, pubescent; ovaries and styles pubescent. There is a great deal of variation in the sepals of this species. The Hong Kongspecimens exhibit two types of sepals some 1. 5 cm long and some less than 1 cm longalthough the leaf shapes are all the same. So it is difficult to subdivide these specimensby sepal length. Some specimens of C. cordifolia have thin leaves and rounded sepals. Their leaves are similar to the Hong Kong specimens, and they may be hybrids. This type also occurs in Taiwan. [Distribution] Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan. [Synonym] Thea salicifolia (Champ.) Seem., Trans. Linn. Soc. 22:349. 1859. \Thea salicifolia var. warburgii Kochs in Engler, Bot. Jahrb. 27: 583. 1900. \Camelliastrum salicifolium (Champ.)Nakai, Journ. Jap. Bot. 16: 701. 1940. \Camellia salicifolia var. longisepala Keng, Taiwania 1:233. 1950.
