Perules 10-13, outside white-pubescent, margins ciliate. Petals 5-6, 1.7-2.2 cm long, 0.9-1.3 cm wide, obovate or narrowly obovate in shape, tip rounded, united from the base with the staminal column up to 2 mm. Androecium glabrous,1.3-1.5 cm long, outer filaments fused from the base into a cup 2.5 mm long. Gynoecium pubescent, about 1.5 cm long, 3 styles, free, not fused at the base, ovary pubescent. Blooming season: autumn to early winter. Capsules subglobose, 3.0-4.0 cm in diameter, 3 locules, surface rough and gray-brown, pericarp wall 4-6 mm thick. Seeds glabrous. Leaves narrowly lanceolate, tip acuminate, base rounded, 9.0-12.0 cm long, 3.0-4.5 cm wide, shallowly serrulate, upper surface with midrib and veins impressed, lower surface with midrib raised, cork-warts. Petioles 5-8 mm long, glabrous, furrowed on the upper surface. Shrub to small tree up to 5 m tall, young shoots glabrous, older branches smooth, cinnamon in color. Distribution: Contiguous region between northern Guangdong Province and southeastern Hunan Province; Specific localities: Lechang in Guangdong Province and Mangshan in Hunan Province; Also culti-vated at the Guangdong Tea Institute, Yingde City, Guangdong Province, China.
