Flowers are white, fragrant, 2.0-2.5 cm in diameter, borne at the tips of twigs and in leaf axils; bud set may be heavy. Pedicels 5-7 mm long. Bracts 4-5, outside surface glabrous, ciliolate. Sepals 5, glabrous on both sides, ciliolate. Petals 5-6, 1.5-2.5 cm long, 1.0-1.7 cm wide, broadly obovate and cleft at the tip, slightly united at the base with the staminal column. Androecium glabrous, 1.5-1.8 cm long, outer filaments slightly fused at the base. Gynoecium glabrous, about 1.5-2.0 cm in length, 3 styles shallowly divided at the tip, ovary glabrous. Blooming season: late winter to spring. Capsules globose, 1.0-1.5 cm in diameter, 3 locules, pericarp wallthin. Leaves elliptic or oblong-elliptic, tip caudate, 4.5-10.0 cm long, 1.8-5.0 cm wide, margin serrulate, thinly coriaceous, midribs raised on both surfaces of the blade. Petioles 3-5 mm long, pubescent. Shrub or small tree up to 6 m in height, young shoots yellowish-pubescent, older branches glabrous,gray-brown in color. Distribution: Central Sichuan Province, Northeastern Yunnan Province and western Hunan Province; Elevation: 500-1,700 m; Spe-cific locality: Boji Township, Baojing County, Hunan Province, China.
