Flowers 3 cm in diameter; perules nearlymembranous, easily breaking; ovaries and styles pubescent. Capsules small and withseveral persistent bracts.

Flowers are white, 3.0-5.0 cm in diameter, born at the tips of shoots and in leaf axils. Perules 9-10, persistent, villous. Petals 6-8, 2.0-3.5 cm long, 1.8-3.4 cm wide, obovate, fused from the base with the staminal column 5-8 mm. Androecium glabrous, 1.6-2.5 cm long, fused from the base to form a fleshy tube about 8 mm long. Gynoecium 1.2-3.0 cm long, 3 styles, free, not fused at the base, ovary densely villous. Blooming season: winter to early spring. Capsules globose, 1.5-2.0 cm in diameter, 3 locules, pericarp wall 1-1.5 mm thick. Seeds reddish-brown pubescent. Leaves narrow elliptic, tip acuminate or caudate, base cuneate,6.0-11.0 cm long, 1.7-4.0 cm wide, serrulate, thinly coriaceous, both surfaces with midribs raised, glabrous. Petioles 6-10 mm long, puberulent. Shrub or small tree up to 4 m tall, young shoots glabrous, twigs slender, older branches gray in color. Distribution: Under broadleaf forests in Emei, Qinglai, Hongya and Mabian, Sichuan Province; Elevation: 1,000-1,800 m; Specific locality: Mituo Temple, Nanbao Township, Qionglai City, Sichuan Province, China.
