Camellia trichocarpa, Subgenus Camellia, Sect. Pseudocamellia, SER. I. Trichocarpae Chang, Acta Sci. Nat. Univ. Sunyatseni, monogr. ser. 1: 44. 1981. Chang Hung-ta and Bruce Bartholomew (1984). Camellias, p.64: Camellia trichocarpa Chang, Acta Sci. Nat. Univ. Sunyatseni, monogr. ser. 1: 45. 1981. [Description] Small tree 2-3 m tall, branchlets pubescent. Leaves coriaceous, long ovate, 5-7. 5 cmlong, 2.5-3. 5 cm wide, apices acuminate, bases subcordate or orbicular, slightly shinyabove, somewhat pubescent along the midveins below, lateral veins 5-7, marginssharply serrate; petioles 4-5 mm long, pubescent. Flowers terminal, white, sessile; bracts and sepals 9-10, nearly orbicular, membranous in the dry state, pubescent, to 8-9mm long; petals 7-8, obovate, 1.5-2. 5 cm long, bases slightly connate; stamens free, 1-1.4 cm long; ovaries pubescent; styles 3-4-parted, free, ca. 1.4 cm long. When Cohen-Stuart published C. henryana in 1916 he combined specimens withglabrous and pubescent ovaries. Sealy designated Henry 10908 as the lectotype, andthis specimen has glabrous ovaries. We believe that the specimens with glabrous andpubescent ovaries belong to different species. C. henryana Sealy, Rev. Gen. Camellia, 161. 1958, quoad Henry 10908, 10908A, 10908B, auct. non Cohen-Stuart.
