Leaves small, elliptic 1.5-2 cm long apices obtuse, bases rounded. Pedicels 3-4 mm long; sepals 1-2 mm long, glabrous. Fruit glabrous. [Synonym]Thea trichoclada Rehd. in Rehd. and Wils., Journ. Arn. Flowers are white, slightly fragrant,1.5-2.0 cm in diameter, borne singly or in multiples at the tips of shoots and in leaf axils; bud set usually heavy. Pedicels 3-4 mm long. Bracts 4-5, glabrous. Sepals 5, glabrous. Petals 5-6, 0.8-1.5 cm long, obo-vate and slightly emarginate, fused with the staminal column up to 2 mm from the base. Androecium glabrous, 1.0-1.2 cm long, outer layer of stamens fused from the base into a cup approximately 5 mm long. Gynoecium about 1 cm long, 3 glabrous styles, fused except at the tip, ovary glabrous. Blooming season: midwinter to early spring. Capsules subglobose, 9-10 mm in diameter, glabrous. Leaves ovate to elliptic ovate, tip obtuse, base rounded to cordate, 1.2-2.4 cm long, 0.6-1.3 cm wide, margin serrulate, upper surface with slightly raised midvein and major lateral veins, puberulent midrib, lower surface smooth and glabrous with raised midvein. Petiole 1-1.5 mm long, hirsute. Shrub up to 1 m tall, shoots with dense, long villous hairs, older branches smooth and rust-gray in color. Distribution: Under forests or in shrub lands in Zhejiang and Fujian Provinces; Elevation: 200-800 m; Specific locality: Yandangshan, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China.
