Camellia tuberculata, Subgenus Camellia, Sect. Tuburculata, Chang Hung-ta and Bruce Bartholomew (1984). Camellias, p.67: Camellia tuberculata Chien, Contrib. Biol. Lab. Sci. Soc. China Bot. 12: 94. 1939. [Description] Fang 24752 has relatively small leaf blades, 5-7. 5 cm long, 2-2. 5 cm wide; styles 4-parted, free and pubescent. The typical species has 5-parted free styles, and the back ofthe leaves are atropunctate. Thea sp. Wils. in Sargent, Pl. Wils. 3:451. 1917.

Flowers are white with some pink markings on fading flowers, 4.0-6.3 cm in diameter, borne at the tip of the shoots. Perules persistent, 7-12, outside yellowish-pubescent, inside pubescent. Petals 6-9,2.0-4.7 cm long, 1.0-2.1 cm wide, obovate, cleft at the tip up to 2 mm, glabrous, fused at the base with the staminal column up to 12 mm. Androecium glabrous, 1.5-3.4 cm long, outside filaments fused from the base into a cup up to 15 mm long. Gynoecium 1.6-3.2 cm long, 3-5 white pubescent styles, free at the base, ovary gray-white tomentose with dense green tubercules. Blooming season: autumn to early winter. Capsules globose to flat-globose in shape, 1.5-2.2 cm in diameter, glabrous, surface tuberculate, 3-5 locules. Seeds pubescent. Leaves narrowly elliptic to ovate-elliptic in shape, tip acute to gradually acuminate, base cuneate to rounded, 7.0-15.4 cm long, 2.3-6.5 cm wide, margin serrulate, teeth spaced 2-5 mm apart, upper surface glabrous with midrib and major veins impressed, lower surface glabrous with midrib and major veins raised, cork-warts. Petiole 7-14 mm long, glabrous. Shrub or small tree up to 5 m tall, young shoots glabrous with ridges, young leaves purple red, older branches smooth, gray-brown in color. Distribution: Abundant in northwestern Guizhou Province and scattered populations in southwestern Hunan Province, eastern Sichuan Province and the northeastern part of Guangxi; Elevation: 500-1,100 m; Specific locality: Kuchayuan, Banqiao Village, Yuanhou Town, Chishui City, Guizhou Province, China.

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强,2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社,第284-286页。花白色,调萎时有少量粉红色斑点,直径4.0~6.3厘米,顶生。鱗片7~12枚,宿存,表面被黄色柔毛,里面被短柔毛。花瓣6~9枚,长2.0~4.7厘米,宽1.0~2.1厘米,倒卵形,先端凹缺2毫米,无毛,基部与雄蕊柱连生12毫米。雄蕊无毛,长1.5~3.4厘米,外轮花丝基部连生形成15毫米长短管。雌蕊长1.6~3.2厘米,花柱3~5个,被白色柔毛,离生,子房被灰白色绒毛,有很多绿色瘤状凸起。花期秋季至冬初。蒴果球形至扁球形,直径1.5~2.2厘米,无毛,果皮有瘤状突起,3~5室。种子被柔毛。叶窄椭圆形至卵状椭圆形,先端急尖至渐尖,基部楔形至阔楔形,长7.0~15.4厘米,宽2.3~6.5厘米,边缘具细齿,齿距2~5毫米,叶面无毛,中脉和侧脉凹陷,叶背无毛,中脉和侧脉凸起,有腺点。叶柄长7~14毫米,无毛。灌木或小乔木,高可达5米,嫩枝无毛,紫红色,有棱角,老枝光滑,灰褐色。分布:贵州省西北部有集中连片分布,湖南省西南 部,四川省东部和广西壮族自治区东北部有零星分布,海 拔500-1100米。可寻地点:贵州省赤水市元厚镇板桥村苦茶园。
