Leaves coriaceous, ovate-oblong,6-8 cm long, 2.5-3cm wide, apices acute, bases subrotund, shiny above; lateralveins 5-6 pairs, obscure; margins serrulate, petioles6-7 mm long. Flowers white,1-2 terminal, sessile; bracts andsepals 9, membranous, broadly obovate, to 1 cmlong, exterior glabrous or puberulent; petals 8, 3-4 cm long, exteriorgreyish-white sericeous; stamens 1.5-2 cm long, outerfilament whorl connate，glabrous; ovaries tomentose; styles slightly longerthanstamens, glabrous, apically 3-cleft. Capsules subglobose, 4.5-5. 5 cm in diameter,3-locular, valves 2-3 mm thick, 1-2 seeds per locule. This species is distinctby having leaves ovate-oblong, bases subrotundate, flowerswhite, bractsscarious; valves of capsule thin.

Flowers are white, fragrant, 5.0-7.0 cm in diameter, borne singly, or in multiples, at the tips of twigs. Perules 8-9, outer surface puberulent. Petals 8, 3.0-4.0 cm long, broadly obovate, tip emarginate, outer surface grey-sericeous. Androecium glabrous, 1.5-2.0 cm long, outer layer of stamens fused from the base into a short tube. Gynoecium 1.7-2.2 cm long, 3 styles slightly divided at the tip, ovary tomentose. Blooming season: spring. Capsules subglobose, 4.0-5.5 cm in diameter, 3 locules, pericarp wall 2-3 mm in thickness. Seeds glabrous, seed oil content is 29.04%.Leaves oblong or elliptic, tip sharply acuminate, base rounded,6.0-9.0 cm long, 2.5-3.5 cm wide, margin thinly serrulate, upper surface smooth. Petiole 6-7 mm long. Shrub or small tree up to 8 m tall, young shoots glabrous, older branches smooth, gray-brown in color. Distribution: Dongan County,Wugang City and Chengbu County,Hunan Province; Elevation: 700-1,100m; Specific locality: Damiaokou For-est Farm, Damiaokou Town, Dongan County, Hunan Province, China.

Lee, sp. nov. 张宏达，1981. 《山茶属植物的系统研究》第64页。【标本】湖南：东安，大庙口，海拔1100米，山谷疏林，1965年3月16日，萧尊存65002(模式Typus! in Teacher’s Coll.Hunan)。【形态特征】小乔木，嫩枝无毛。叶革质，卵状长圆形，长6-8厘米，宽2.5-3厘米，先端锐尖，基部近圆形，上面发亮，侧脉5-6对，不明显，边缘有细锯齿，叶柄长6-7毫米。花白色，1-2朵顶生，无柄；苞及萼9片，膜质，阔倒卵形，最长1厘米，外面无毛或被微毛；花瓣7片，长3-4厘米，外面被灰色绢毛；雄蕊长1.5-2厘米，外轮花丝连合，无毛；子房有绒毛，花柱比雄蕊略长，无毛，先端3裂。蒴果近球形，直径约5厘米，3室，果爿厚2-3毫米，种子每室1-2个。叶卵状长圆形，基部近圆形，花白色，萼片干膜质，近秃净，蒴果的爿薄。

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第83页。花白色，芳香，花径5.0~7.0厘米，单花或多花顶生。鱗片8~9枚，外被微柔毛。花瓣8枚，长3.0~4.0厘米,阔倒卵形，先端凹缺，背面有灰色绢毛。雄蕊无毛，长1.5~2.0厘米，外轮花丝基部连生形成短管。雌蕊长1.7~2.2厘米，花柱先端3浅裂，子房被绒毛。花期春季。蒴果近球形，直径4.0~5.5厘米，3室，果皮厚2~3毫米。种子无毛，种子含油率29.04%。叶长圆形或椭圆形，先端锐尖，基部近圆形，长6.0~9.0厘米，宽2.5~3.5厘米，边缘具细齿，叶面光滑。叶柄长6~7毫米。灌木或小乔木，高可达8米，嫩枝无毛，老枝光滑，灰褐色。分布：湖南省的东安、武冈、城步一带，海拔700- 1100米。可寻地点:湖南省东安县大庙口林场。
