[Description] Branchletspubescent. Leaves elliptic, 5-12 cmlong, 2-5 cm wide. Flowers white, 7-11cm indiameter, bracts and sepals 9, petals 5-7 , stamens slightly connate, ovaries3-5-locular, styles 3-5-parted or basally connate. Capsules globose, 4-6 cm indiameter. The leaf and flower size of this species is relatively large. Thosegrowing at 800-950 min the mountains have oblong leaves, to 12 cm long. Thosegrowing at lower elevationshave elliptical leaves, leaf blades thicker, wrinkledin the dry state, veins usually obscure.

Flowers are white, scent similar to C. sasanqua, 7.5-13.9 cm in diameter, borne singly at the tips of shoots and in leaf axils. Perules 9-10, deciduous at flowering, outside pubescent, inside glabrous. Petals 8-10, 3.9-7.5 cm long, 3.0-4.9 wide, obcordate, cleft at tip from 5-11 mm, slight pubescence on outside of exterior petals, inside glabrous, petals free, not fused to the base of the stamens. Androecium glabrous, rather flattened and spreading, 1.2-2.0 cm long, slight and irregular basal fusion, approximately 100 stamens. Gynoecium 1.2-2.0 cm long, 3-5 styles, glabrous, free or fused up to 50 % from the base, ovary tomentose. Blooming season: late autumn to early winter. Capsules globose, 2.5-6.0 cm long, 3.0-7.0 cm in diameter, villose,3-5 locules, thick pericarp. Leaves elliptic to ovate, rarely obovate, tip acute to mostly short acuminate, base cuneate to mostly rounded, 5.4-13.1 cm long, 2.7-6.7 cm wide, margin serrulate with teeth spaced 2-4 mm apart, upper surface with midrib slightly impressed, midrib puberulent, lower surface with midrib slightly raised, midrib glabrous to villous. Petiole 5-12 mm long, upper surface puberulent, lower surface glabrous or villous. Shrub or small tree up to 10 m tall, young shoots sparsely to strongly villous, becoming glabrescent with age, twigs dark brown, older branches smooth and grayish-rust in color. Distribution: Southern part of Guangdong Province, Hainan Prov-ince and the counties of Guangxi adjacent to Vietnam, and in Vietnam and Loas; Elevation: 200-500m; Specific locality: Daqingshan, Pingxiang City, Guangxi, China.

高继银、帕克斯、杜跃强，2005. 《山茶属植物主要原种彩色图集》浙江科学技术出版社，第175-176页。花白色，具茶梅那样的麝香芳香，花径7.5~13.9厘米，单花顶生或腋生。鱗片9~10枚，随花朵开放而掉落，外面被短柔毛，里面无毛。花瓣8~10枚，长3.9~7.5厘米，宽3.0~4.9厘米，倒心形，先端有5~11 毫米裂□，外轮瓣背略被短柔毛，瓣面无毛，基部离生。 雄蕊无毛，偏平，散射状，长1.2~2.0厘米，基部略不规则连生，雄蕊约100枚。雌蕊长1.2~2.0厘米，花柱3~5个，无毛，离生或基部50%连生，子房被绒毛。花期晚秋到冬初。蒴果球形，长2.5~6.0厘米，直径3.0~7.0厘米，被长柔毛，3~5室，果皮厚。叶椭圆形至卵圆形，有时略呈倒卵形，先端急尖至短尖，基部楔形至圆形，长5.4~13.1厘米，宽2.7~6.7厘米，边缘具齿，齿距2~4毫米，革质，叶面中脉略凹陷，被微柔毛，叶背中脉略凸起，无毛或带长柔毛。灌木或乔木，高可达10米，嫩枝被稀疏或较多的长柔毛，后变秃净，枝条暗褐色，老枝光滑，灰铁锈色。分布：中国广东省南部、海南省、广西壮族自治区靠 近越南边界各县以及越南和老挝，海拔200-500米。可寻地点:广西壮族自治区凭祥市大青山。
