Danyun Geyu

Danyun Geyu (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangxia Hongjiao'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.314. HAR-12-2., a cross seedling (DHL-No.3) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Xiangxia Hongjiao'. Flowers pale pink, fading to pink-white at the top part of petals, light orange red at the base, rose-double to peony form, large to very large size, 12.5-13.5cm across and 5.5cm deep with 35-45 large petals arranged overlappingly in 6-7 rows, petals long obovate, turned outward, stamens clustered, occasionally with a few petaloids. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, narrow long elliptic, urgently cuneate at the base, margins smooth. Plant compact, bushy and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Pale Cloud & Pavilion Rain”.
