Feiyan. (Camellia japonica)  Synonym: Camellia japonica ‘Songzi’  Originate: Sichuan  Characteristics： Plant growth vigorous, open, medium abundantly branching, great branching angle with internodes medium to long. Leaves green, flat, elliptic, with apex apiculate, base cuneate, measured 8.5- cm to 9.5 cm across by 4 cm to 4.5 cm wide, serration tiny, tip reflexed. Flowers bright red. Petals elliptic, heavy texture, with irregular notched margins, obvious venation, imbricated loose as an opening pine cone, occasionally with white spots, about 22 segments. Petaloids by occasional stamens, and mixed with some normal stamens in centre, diameter 8 cm to 10 cm. Semi-double form, medium floral abundance. Blooming February to April, at full blooming in March.  Key points of identification: Petals thicker, imbricated loose as an opening pine cone.
