» English Description

Tuyama, 1968, Camellias of Japan, pl.147, pp.74, 131, 132 as ‘Hatsu-hi’; Seibundō Shinkōsha 1979, Senchinshū, p.116, colour photo, p.238, description. A medium sized, deep pink (Cherry 722/1) single with compact central stamen column. Leaves narrowly elliptic, gradually acuminate, loosely crenate at the margin, petioles long, glabrous. Flowers early to mid-season. Originated in Takarazuka City, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. Sport of ‘Miyuki-nishiki’, which is a synonym for Tatsuta-nishiki. This was formerly called ‘Hatsu-hinode’ but renamed because of the existence of the same name for another cultivar.
