Jiamian Hongtan

Jiamian Hongtan (C. azalea × C. japonica). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.174. HA-73-1., a cross seedling (DHRBD-No.2) of C. azalea × C. japonica. Flowers dark red, slightly with velvet luster, occasionally with a few white stripes, semi- double form, medium size, 8.5-10.0cm across and 5.5cm deep with 15-18 large petals arranged in 3 rows, petals broad obovate, stamens united at the base, flowers fall whole. Leaves dark green, heavy leathery, elliptic, urgently cuneate at the base, margins obtusely serrate. Plant upright, growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and occasionally in spring. The cultivar name means “The Red Carpet for Crowning”.
