International Camellia Journal (2003), page 100 with colour plate. European Reg. No 40. Guedes e Oliveira (2010). Lista das Camélias Portuguesas, first Edition, pp.31,69 as José Gil. Open pollinated seedling originated in Porto, Portugal, by Clara Gil de Seabra. First flowered in 1995 at circa 10 years. The plant forms an upright conical shrub, of medium growth rate. Blooms mid-season. White anemone form 6 cm x 12 cm, typical mixed stamens and petaloids, outer petals notched. Spent blooms fall whole. Named for José Gil de Ferreira, long-service ICS Director for Portugal.
