Liucun Caihong

Liucun Caihong (C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Hongwu Jixiang'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.305. HAR-10-8., a cross seedling (DHW-No.14) of C. azalea × C. azalea F1 new hybrid 'Hongwu Jixiang'. Flowers deep orange red with faint white markings on petal surfaces, semi-double form, medium to large size, 8.5-11.5cm across and 4.8cm deep with 12-13 petals arranged in 2 rows, broad obovate, stamens slightly united at the base, filaments scattered, bloom dense. Leaves dark green, leathery, long lanceolate, urgently cuneate at the base, margins shallowly and obtusely serrate. Plant compact and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from early-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Liu Village's Rainbow”.
