Mencía. (C. japonica). Publicación de la Sociedad Española de la Camelia, 32. 2018, p.50. Origin of the variety: a seed from 'Midnight Magic' raised by Eusebio López C. japonica Redondo in 2007, in Sillobre, Fene (A Coruña, Spain). FLOWER: Size: small to medium; 6-9 cm in diameter and 3-4 cm deep. Colour: red purplish, 53A-B and 59A (RHS color chart), homogeneous, veined with darker colour; in some petals faded to the base. Shape: formal double. Petals: 40-80, rounded the external ones, elliptical the internal and central ones; notched and variously notched margin or smooth. Sometimes with small incisions in the base. LEAF: Size: medium, 8-9 cm long and 4-4.5 cm wide. Colour: medium green. Shape: elliptical. Margin: serrate. Apex: pointed to acuminate. Base: acute to obtuse. PLANT: Blooming period: very late; it begins to bloom at the end of November and extends until June or even July. Very floriferous; the flower falls whole. Habit: bushy, medium growth rate, upright growth and conical shape. Other data: first bloomed in 2011. New shoots are reddish in colour and flower buds are small and rounded. It has been shown at camelia exhibitions in Galicia since 2016.
