Encyclopedia of Camellias in Colour, vol.I, 1972, p.366: Small, purple red, single, opening narrow campanulate, 5-7 petals, outer densely tomentose on reverse. Stamens in central cyclinder. Leaves small size, medium green, long-elliptic, apex acuminate, margins serrate, waved, thick. New growth black-red. Selected from a wild japonica community on Shōdo Island, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan. Named and released by Hasechika Imoto in 1972. See: Seibundō Shinkōsha, 1979, Senchinshū, p.221.
