Tianzi

Tianzi (C. japonica). China Regn. #2011-075. China Flowers & Horticulture, 2011, No.4, p.36. Flowers peony form, deep red, 9-10 cm diameter, petals elliptic, thick, obvious veining, emarginate, outer flat and undulating, outer stamens petaliods, ruffled, with white spots, petals about 17. Leaves obovate, apices acuminate, margins serrate, 9-10 cm long, 4.5-5 cm wide, leaves flat. Flowers mid-season.

Tianzi. (Camellia japonica)  Synonym: None  Originate: Sichuan  Characteristics： Natural hybrid new variety. Plant growth vigorous, open crown. Leaves green, obovate, with apex apiculate, base most rounded, measuring 9 cm to 10 cm across by 4.5 cm to 5 cm wide, flat, glossy, serrate shallow and sparsely. Calyxes opening. Flowers bright red, diameter 9 cm to 10 cm wide, medium to large size. Petals elliptic, heavy texture, thicker, venation obvious, with apex notched. Outer petals slightly reflexed, imbricated loosely. Petaloids by some stamens, crinkled with white stripes, interspersed with normal stamens. 17 segments, peony double form, medium floral abundance. Blooms February to April, at fully blooming in March.  Key points of identification: Petals imbricated loosely, petaloids crinkled with white stripes, mixed with normal stamens.

天姿 Camellia japonica ‘Tianzi’ 中国登录号：2011-075，《中国花卉园艺》2011年第4期36页。由谭崇平命名，重庆南山植物园管理处的王兴礼培育并登录。四川省什邡市红白镇是川茶品种的重要起源地之一。本品种是培育者从川茶自然杂交单株中选出。花大红色，花径9～10cm，中到大型花。牡丹型，花瓣椭圆形，质厚，瓣脉明显，瓣缘先端有缺凹，外瓣平展，略反卷，中心雄蕊花瓣，表面皱褶，带白色条斑，雄蕊成熟间杂期间，花瓣17枚。叶倒卵形，先端渐尖，叶齿浅且稀，叶长9～10cm，宽4.5～5cm，叶面平展、光亮。花期2～4月，盛花期3月。
