Xiangshanhong

Xiangshanhong (C. japonica). China Regn. #2019-263. China Flowers & Horticulture, 2019, No.8, p.57. Originated and registered by Wu Guangyao of Xiangshan County, Zhejiang Province. Discovered in the early spring of 2006 from the wild red camellia population in the seaside mountains of Xiangshan. Collected branches were grafted and bloomed for the first time in 2009. Flower buds spherical, sepals green, sparsely tomentose. Flowers red at the beginning of opening, gradually light red before withering, formal double, medium size, diameter 8.0~ 9.5cm, depth 4.0~ 4.5cm, petals 34~40 arranged in more than 7 rounds, 4.0cm long and 3.5cm wide, apex slightly concave, surface with dark red veins, flower center mostly spherical in shape, and dense flowers. Leaves medium green, bright, elliptic, 8.5-9.0cm long, 3.5-4.5cm wide, slightly raised dorsal, and shallow margins. Plant compact, with dense branches and leaves, dwarf bush-like, vigorous growth, and strong cold resistance. Flowering period is from February to mid-April.

象山红Camellia japonica ‘Xiangshanhong’. 中国茶花登录号：2019-263。《中国花卉园艺》2019年第8期57页。由浙江省象山县亭溪西郊花木繁育场吴光耀培育并登录。2006年春初从象山海边山地的野生红山茶群体中发现的一个变异品种。采集枝条经嫁接,于2009年首次开花，多年观测和大量繁殖，性状稳定。花蕾球形，萼片绿色，被稀疏绒毛。花刚开放为红色，凋萎前逐渐为淡红色，完全重瓣型，中型花，花径8.0～9.5cm，花厚4.0～4.5cm， 34～40枚花瓣呈7轮以上排列，瓣缘外翻，阔倒卵形，瓣长4.0cm，宽3.5cm,先端微凹，瓣面可见深红色脉纹，花心多呈小球状，开花稠密。叶片中等绿色，光亮，革质，椭圆形，长8.5～9.0cm，宽3.5～4.5cm，叶背略凸起，边缘齿浅。植株紧凑，枝叶稠密，矮灌状，生长旺盛，抗寒性强。开花期2月至4月中旬。
