Xiaohonglian

Gao, Jiyin, Ltr, 21st Jan. 1993: Red formal double, bell-like at start of blooming. Small size. Vigorous, upright growth.  Zhou Li, 2011, Illustrated Handbook for Sichuan Camellias, p.156. A sport of  ‘Sanxueshi’, Plant growth vigorous, branches slender with long internodes, most horizontal, young shoot slightly drooping, canopy globose. Leaf elliptical, margins slightly recurved as turtle shell, apex apieulate, base broad obtuse, measuring 7 cm to 9.5 cm across by 3.5 cm to 5 cm wide, serration tiny and sparse. Sepals open. Petals, flat, most rounded, imbricated regularly in numerous rows, about 80, deep pink to light red, occasion with white stripes, diameter 8 cm to 10 cm wide. Formal double. Flowering late February to April, at full bloom in late March, proliferous floral buds, sometimes not fully open.  Key points of identification: Except only dark pink flowers within same plant, other characteristics same as variety ‘Sanxueshi’.  Originated in China. 

周利主编、2011《川茶品种图鉴》 p.156。三学士的芽变品种。树势较强，枝较细长，节间较长，多向外平伸，小枝略下垂，树形呈圆球状；叶椭圆形，叶缘略反卷，呈龟背状，叶先端纯尖，基部楔形，叶长7cm-9.5cm,宽3.5cm-5cm,叶齿浅稀；花萼开张，花瓣平展，平辦花多轮，约80枚，排列整齐。花深粉红色或浅红色，花径8cm-l0cm，花瓣上偶有白色条斑，花瓣近圆形，完全重瓣型。花期较晚，于3月至4月开放，盛花期3月下旬，花朵稠密，有时花朵不全开放。识别特征：同一植株上只开深粉红色花朵，其他性状与三学士相近。原始产地：重庆
