Xiying Shuguang (C. azalea × C. japonica 'Dawn's Early Light'). China authorized variety number: 20240132. Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.121. HA-58-2., a cross seedling (DDW-No.2) of C. azalea × C. japonica cultivar'Dawn's Early Light'. Flowers deep pink to light peach red, fading to pink at the center, occasionally with fuzzy white stripes on the central petals, semi-double to peony form, medium to large size, 9.5-11.5cm across and 5.5cm deep with 11-13 exterior large petals arranged orderly in 2 rows, petals broad obovate, 21-25 small petals and petaloids at the center, stamens clustered. Leaves dark green, leathery, elliptic, margins shallowly serrate. Plant upright and growth vigorous. Starts to bloom from late-summer, fully blooms from autumn to winter and sporadically in spring. The cultivar name means “Happily Welcome Dawn”.
