» English Description

Yabukita. (C. sinensis). Registered in 1953. Selected from original Japanese tea. It is a representative cultivar of Japanese tea, and cultivated area nationwide accounts for about 80% of the total cultivated area. The taste is mellow and has an elegant scent. This name was given because the tea planted on the north side of the Yabu. Use for Japanese green tea and other kinds of tea. Released by Shizuoka Pref.

[Developer] Mr. Hikosaburo Sugiyama, Shizuoka Tea Research Station (now Tea Industry Research Center, Shizuoka Agricultural and Forestry Research Institute)

[History] Hikosaburo Sugiyama of Arimura Nakayoshida, Abe-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture (currently Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka City) selected from a seedling tea plant of a conventional species. The selected individuals proliferate mainly on the harvested trees, and from 1927, the tea industry of Shizuoka Agricultural Experiment Station (now Tea Research Center of Shizuoka Prefectural Agricultural and Forestry Research Institute) has carried out verification tests of various characteristics. Furthermore, since 1935, system comparison tests and characteristic verification tests have been conducted at the same place, and their excellence was recognized. In 1953, it was registered as ‘Tea Norin 6’ and was named as 'Yabukita'.

[Growth] Middle. The earliest tea germination period is around March 30 in Makinohara, Shizuoka prefecture, and around March 22, in the warm district of Kagoshima prefecture. The harvest period is from late April to early May in the flat areas of Shizuoka prefecture and around April 20 in the warm areas of Kagoshima prefecture.

[Morphological characteristics] The tree is slightly upright. The tree is a little strong and the stock is a little big. The arrangement of tea buds during the plucking period is very good. This is a cultivar with a large number of buds and a slightly large hundred bud weight.

[Rooting] Good.

[Growth] Good.

[Management for young trees] Using a tree height of 50 to 60 cm as a guide, pruning is performed at about 25 cm above the ground before sprouting in the second or third year of planting. After that, the tree height is appropriately raised and the tree is pruned. Upright cultivars such as'Yabukita' carry out pruning while paying attention to the strain. The open cultivar cultivates pruning at slightly higher tree heights, starting in the fourth or fifth year. Prepare for plucking.

[Yield] rather high.

[Quality] The quality of green tea is excellent. The color is bright green and easy to shape. The inside quality is fragrant and has a fresh scent. The deliciousness is strong.

[Cold resistance] Cold resistance in winter is strong, and it is strong against laceration type frost damage.

[Insect resistance] Weak to anthrax and weak to ring spot. Slightly weak for the scale bug.

[Suitable areas for cultivation] Tea producing areas nationwide in Japan. Yield and tea-making quality are slightly inferior in the sub-tropical areas of Kagoshima Prefecture and Okinawa Prefecture.

[Processing characteristics] The quality of summer tea is slightly lower than that of Ichi-bancha. Not only suitble for Gyoku green tea and  sencha, but also suitable for gyokuro and tencha.

【来歴】静岡県安倍郡有度村中吉田(現静岡市清水区)の杉山彦三郎が在来種の実生茶園から選抜した。選抜個体を主に取り木で増殖し,1927年から静岡県農事試験場茶業部(現静岡県農林技術研究所茶業研究センター)で諸特性の検定試験が行なわれた。さらに,1935年から同所で系統比較試験,特性検定試験が行なわれ,その優秀性が認められた。1953年に茶農林6号に登録,やぶきたと命名された。

【早晩性】中生。一番茶萌芽期は静岡県の牧之原で330日前後,鹿児島県の暖地で322日頃となる。摘採期は静岡県の平坦地で4月下旬5月上旬,鹿児島県の暖地で420日前後である。

【形態的特性】樹姿はやや直立型。樹勢はやや強で株張りはやや大。摘採期の茶芽の揃いは非常に良い。芽数は多く,百芽重はやや大のやや芽数型品種。

【挿し木発根性】良好。

【初期生育の良否】良好。

【幼木の仕立て法】樹高5060cmを目安に,定植2年目あるいは3年目の萌芽前に地上25cm前後のところで剪枝する。以後適宜樹高を上げて剪枝する。やぶきたなどの直立型品種は株張りに留意して剪枝を行ない.開張型品種はやや樹高を上げぎみに剪枝を行なつて,4年目あるいは5年目から始まる本格的な摘採に備える。

【収量性】収量はやや多収。

【品質】煎茶品質は優良。色沢が鮮緑で形状も<りやすい。内質は香気に新鮮香があり.水色も力があり良好。滋味は旨味が強い。

【耐寒性】冬期の耐寒性は強,裂傷型凍害にも強。

【耐病虫性】炭疽病に弱,輪斑病に弱である。クワシロカイガラムシにはやや弱。

【栽培適地】全国の茶産地。鹿児島県の島縝部および沖縄県などの亜熱帯地域では収量,製茶品質ともやや劣る。

【加工特性】一番茶に比べ夏茶の品質低下がやや大きい。煎茶だけでなぐ玉緑茶.玉露,碾茶にも適する
