Zihongyuan

Zihongyuan (C.amplexicaulis × C. japonica ' Margaaret Davis'). HB-26-2., a cross seedling(BKCD-No.9) of C. amplexicaulis × C. japonica ' Margaaret Davis'. When just opening, flowers are purple red andball-shaped at the center, as the flowers opening, petal color is fading topink at the center, rose-double to formal double form, medium to large size,9.5-11.0cm across and 4.5cm deep with 40-48 large petals arranged in 6-7 rows,petal edges turned inward, more than 25 small petals at the center. Leavesgreen, heavy leathery, long elliptic, midribs and lateral veins sunken, marginsfinely and shallowly serrate. Plant compact and growth vigorous. Blooms fromearly-winter to the spring of following year. The cultivar name means “Purple Red Dwelling”.

紫红苑 Camellia ‘Zihongyuan’ 。刘信凯、钟乃盛、柯欢、武艳芳主编，2023，《第二部四季茶花杂交新品种彩色图集》，浙江科学技术出版社，第464页。 HB-26-2.杂交组合：越南抱茎茶×红山茶品种‘宽彩带’，杂交苗编号：BKCD-No.9。刚开放时花朵紫红色，花芯球状，随着花朵的开放，渐向花芯变为粉红色，玫瑰重瓣型至完全重瓣型，中型至大型花，花径9.5-11.0cm，花朵厚4.5cm，大花瓣40-48枚，呈6-7轮排列，花瓣倒卵形，边缘内扣，花芯处小花瓣25枚以上。叶片绿色，厚革质，长椭圆形，长13.5-15.0cm，宽6.5-7.0cm,中脉和侧脉凹陷，边缘叶齿细浅。植株紧凑，生长旺盛。冬初至翌年春季开花。
