Chinese Camellia Culture, 2003, Appendix, p.570; Twigs purple. Leaf elliptic, base round, middle vein prominent, deep green, 6-7 cm x 3.5-4 cm. Flat petals, 8 to 12 in 2-3 rows, somewhat short, regularly arranged. Twisted petaloid stamens in several bundles, mixed with normal stamens. Flower deep purple to red, 8-10 cm diameter. Flowers early to late. A seedling of Qixinhong. From Sichuan Province, China.
Ziqixin. (Camellia japonica) Synonym: None Originate: Chongqing Characteristics: Bud mutant originated from variety ‘Qixinhong’. Plant habit vigorous with growth, with open crown as globose shaped, abundantly branching and foliage dense, internodes short. Leaves green, ovate, flat, with apex acuminate, base broad cuneate, measured 7 cm to 7.5 cm across by 4 cm to 4.5 cm wide, serrate deep and fine. Calyxes are opening. Flowers deep red. Petals rounded, flat, with margins crinkled, 10 segments imbricated in 2-3 rows.
