Ziqixin

Chinese Camellia Culture, 2003, Appendix, p.570; Twigs purple. Leaf elliptic, base round, middle vein prominent, deep green, 6-7 cm x 3.5-4 cm. Flat petals, 8 to 12 in 2-3 rows, somewhat short, regularly arranged. Twisted petaloid stamens in several bundles, mixed with normal stamens. Flower deep purple to red, 8-10 cm diameter. Flowers early to late. A seedling of Qixinhong. From Sichuan Province, China.

Ziqixin. (Camellia japonica)  Synonym: None  Originate: Chongqing  Characteristics: Bud mutant originated from variety ‘Qixinhong’. Plant habit vigorous with growth， with open crown as globose shaped, abundantly branching and foliage dense, internodes short. Leaves green, ovate, flat, with apex acuminate, base broad cuneate, measured 7 cm to 7.5 cm across by 4 cm to 4.5 cm wide, serrate deep and fine. Calyxes are opening. Flowers deep red. Petals rounded, flat, with margins crinkled, 10 segments imbricated in 2-3 rows. Tiny Petaloids by most stamens, more than 200 in 5-7 groups, imbricated tightly, with occasional white spots, interspersed with occasional stamens, peony double from. Diameter 8 cm to 10 cm, medium floral abundance. Blooming February to early March, at fully booming mid February to in mid March.  Key points of identification: Flowers smaller than variety ‘Qixinhong’， deep red.

周利主编、2011《川茶品种图鉴》 p.234。七心红的芽变品种。树势强健，树冠开张，枝条茂密，生长健壮，成枝力强，节间短，树冠呈圆球形；叶绿色，卵圆形，平展，先端急尖，基部宽楔形，叶长7cm~7.5cm,宽4cm~4.5cm,叶齿深而密；花萼开张，平瓣花2轮~3轮，约10枚，花瓣圆形，辦缘略皱褶，雄蕊多数瓣化成200,多片小花瓣呈5~7束，排列紧凑，瓣化瓣上偶见少量白斑，花深红色，雄蕊间杂于瓣化瓣中，牡丹型，花量中等，花径8cm~10cm,开花期1月至4月上旬，盛花期在2月中旬至3月中旬。识别特征：花比七心红小，花深红色。原始产地：重庆。
