Branchlets pubescent. Leaves oblong 9 cm
long, 4 cm wide. Pedicels 4 mm long; bracts 5-6, persistent; sepals 5, persistent;
petals 5, filaments completely connate into along tube, ovaries pubescent; styles
3-parted, extremely short. Capsules globose, 3 cmin diameter; 1 seed per locule,
pericarp thin. [Distribution]

Shrub or small tree, 2–10 m high. Leaves chartaceous, oblong-ellipticor elliptic, 6–9 by 2.5–4 cm; apex acute or acuminate; base cuneate to rounded; margin crenate or crenulate; petiole 4–7 mm long. Bracteoles and sepals not clearly differentiated, 10–11, ovate to rounded, 3–5.5 mm long. Petals white, 5, obovate to broadly elliptic, 8–13 mm long, concave; apex rounded. Filaments of the outer stamens united their whole length to form a tube irregularly dentate above; anthers attached on the sinus; inner stamens 3–5, free. Ovary densely tomentose, 4 mm long; style short and stout, 3-branched. Capsule subglobose, 2.8 cm high, 3-sulcate with 1 large seed in each locule, or rounded with only 1 seed developed.

Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Suthep – type, Fang, Doi Inthanon); NORTH-EASTERN: Loei (Phu Kradueng); CENTRAL: Saraburi (Kliao Yai); PENINSULAR: Ranong (La-un), Surat Thani (Ban Tha Kham). In evergreen forests, often by stream or shade places from low to medium altitudes (800–2000 m).
Endemic to Thailand.

l.c.145. 1958. 张宏达,1981. 《山茶属植物的系统研究》第108页。【标本】,分布:泰国。【形态特征】嫩枝有毛,叶长圆形,9x4厘米,花梗长4毫米;苞片5-6,宿存;萼片5,宿存;花瓣5;雄蕊的花丝完全连生成长管;子房有毛;花柱3条,极短。蒴果球形,直径3厘米,每室有种子1个,果爿薄。
灌木或小乔木,高2-10米。叶纸质,长圆状椭圆形或椭圆形,长6-9 厘米,宽2.5-4 厘米;先端锐尖或渐尖;基部楔形到圆形;边缘具圆齿或细圆齿;叶柄长 4-7 毫米。小苞片和萼片分化不明显,10-11,卵形到圆形,长 3-5.5 毫米。花瓣白色,5枚,倒卵形到宽椭圆形,长8-13毫米,凹陷;先端圆形。外雄蕊的花丝全长合在一起,形成管状,上面有不规则的齿状;花药附着在凹缺上;内雄蕊 3-5,离生。子房密被绒毛,长 4 毫米;花柱短而粗壮,3 分枝。蒴果近球形,高2.8厘米,3室,每室有1粒大种子,或圆形,仅有1粒种子发育。
