Flowers are white, outer petals shaded green, 3.0-4.0 cm in diameter, borne at the tips of shoots and in leaf axils. Bracts and Sepals 5-7, slightly puberulent. Petals 7-8, 1.5-2.0 cm long, obovate, rounded at the tip, slightly fused at the base with the staminal column. Androecium glabrous, about 10 mm long, filaments mostly free at the base. Gynoecium 8-10 mm long, 3 styles shallowly cleft at the tip, ovary tomentose. Blooming season: autumn to early winter. Capsules triangular, 1.5-2.5 cm in diameter, 3 locules, pericarp wall 1 mm thick. Leaves elliptic to long-elliptic, tip acuminate, base cuneate, 8.0-16.0 cm long, 3.0-6.0 cm wide, sparsely serrulate, thickly coriaceous, midribs raised on both sides of blade. Petioles 5-7 mm long, puberulent. Shrub or small tree up to 5 m tall, young shoots pubescent, older branches smooth and yellow-brown in color. Distribution: Rucheng County in southeastern Hunan Province; Elevation: 200-300 m; Specific locality: Baqiutian, Daping, Rucheng County, Hunan Province, China.
