Dakota (C. japonica) ACS, Reg. No.2622.  American Camellia Yearbook, 2004, p91. This 8-10 year old C. japonica chance seedling was originated and propagated by the late Dr. Howard Smith of Gainesville, FL. Plant: Upright and open with average growth rate. Leaf: 3½ x 2¼ inches. Bloom: The 3" variegated red and white peony bloom has 7 petals and 119 petaloid. The flower is a profuse bloomer, falling in one-piece blooming midseason to late.
