Dakuayue

Dakuayue (C. amplexicaulis × a chance seeding of C. japonica 'Jinpan Lizhi'). Liu Xinkai et al. 2023, Illustrations of the New Camellia Hybrids that Bloom Year-round, Zhejiang Science and Technology Publishing House, p.484. HB-32-1., a cross seedling (BJPS-No.12+16) of C. amplexicaulis × a chance seeding of C. japonica 'Jinpan Lizhi'. Flowers deep peach red, fading to pink at the edges, semi-double form, medium to large size, 8.5-10.5cm across and 5.5cm deep with 13-15 large petals arranged in 2 rows, petals broad obovate, edges slightly crinkled, stamens slightly united at the base. Leaves normal green, thick leathery, broad elliptic, midribs and lateral veins visible, margins sharply and densely serrate. Plant upright, branches spread and growth vigorous. Blooms in spring. The cultivar name means “Great Stride Leap”.
